About Us

The AReMiS Network links evidence, knowledge and best practice to advocacy and policy about regional settlement and migration in Australia. The Network currently has over 60 members and meets regularly, facilitating cross-sector collaboration on regional settlement and migration policy priorities.

The AReMiS Research Network was founded in 2023 by Dr Tess Altman and Ann Foley at Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council.  The Network is supported by a Steering Group whose members include Associate Professor Natasha Klocker (University of Wollongong), Dr. George Tan (Adelaide University), Dr. Tess Altman (University of New South Wales), Dr. Martina Boese (La Trobe University), Dr. Sasha Blok (University of New South Wales), Kelly Buckingham (Multicultural Australia), and Associate Professor Sue Watt (University of New England). The 2026 Co-Convenors are Dr. Martina Boese and Kelly Buckingham, with Dr. Sarah Faulkner as Network Coordinator. The previous 2025 Convenor was Associate Professor Sue Watt, and the 2023 Convenor was Dr Tess Altman.

The AReMiS Network Mission includes:

  • Connect research, practice and policy-making by sharing knowledge

  • Foster a community of practice to discuss the most pertinent challenges and emerging solutions in the field of regional migration and settlement

  • Stimulate partnerships by generating new research and project initiatives

  • Promote research and local practices across organisations, institutions and geographies; and

  • Inform and impact policy decisions through a network of diverse professionals
